Purpose:
When properly designed and built, a balcony can offer valuable and accessible outdoor space for multi-unit residential buildings (MURB) residents without increasing energy use or costs for owners or occupants. This report summarizes results of a study that evaluated different balcony designs to understand the impacts of daylighting and energy use. It also provides recommendations for balcony design for the MURB construction industry.
